"It helped me in my career crisis!
This book is so relatable. It starts out with the doctor, before he became a doctor, having a nervous breakdown over how he felt stuck in his previous career. I am going through the same things now. But if he can find hope by being positive, and increasing his self awareness, then I can too. He found a career that complemented an inventory of his personality. He writes about job hunting on page 178 but the whole book is useful for the process of finding a new career.”

"Positivity helped me feel more meaning in my life.
I’m really bothered by all the doom and gloom stories on the TV news. I feel that now that I’m retired, I haven’t done much with my life. However, this book showed me I am part of a wonderful culture that has helped people all over the world! I am feeling alot more of the meaning in my life after I take time everyday to appreciate my accomplishments and how I’ve helped other people. It’s not being selfish, it is being positive I think!”

"I’m learning to out think anxiety!
I got so anxious, I quit my job. I drove friends and romantic guys away from me. I was overthinking about all the problems in my life, because I felt I had to. Of course, I didn’t have to. I just never thought it through. I like how he says there is always a fight in our mind between the positive and the negative. Once I understood that I could choose the positive and reject the negative–life became so much more fun. I got a different job but I’m loving life alot more now, since I cut down on my overthinking.”

"My relationship is more loving.
My husband was acting more strange around me. I was afraid he would divorce me. I took a look at my attitude. The book helped me see I was dwelling all the time on my problems, which made me a real drag to be around. And I was dwelling on all my husband’s problems, and what he was or wasn’t doing about them. Of course these are because I fell into being pessimistic without even knowing it. The book helped me correct it. We are doing better now.”

"I jumpstarted my college career.
I quit college. It felt so fake. I thought society was just a bunch of people using each other. The Prescription book helped me see the truth. Education is such a gift. Our culture is amazing. I decided I really wanted to be a good, working part of it! I took computer science classes and I hope to be a programmer one day. Right now I’m working in a grocery store, but it’s all good now.”

"My habits got a boost and that helped my depression get so much better.
I could hardly get out of bed. When I tried all I could think about were my problems. My multiple sclerosis. My dog who passed away. Relatives who are sick. Our tight finances. In The Preface, Dr. Jensen goes over the power of daily habits. In two weeks my mood is better as I just focus on what are the daily habits that I know really work for me. Get to sleep by 9 30, get up by 6 30. Take a morning walk with the walking meditation. Organize my day with some kind of list. Pray. Read something uplifting. Say no to the negativity. Limit social media. I’ve lost a couple pounds and my mood is so much better.”

"I’m managing my kid’s drama so much better.
My son just puts me down. He takes me for granted. I know he is using me. I let him stay at my house for free. But I couldn’t figure out how he was having such a big influence on me. I mean, I’m the adult in this relationship! I thought I was a good Mom, but I sure didn’t feel that. Then I read Chapter 1 in Prescription For Positivity. It talks about self limiting beliefs. My son had those beliefs about me! And I’d been fooled to adopt the same things. I saw I can reject those self limiting beliefs and really feel good about how I’ve done as a Mom.”

“I’m getting my life better organized.
I was struggling to get my self motivated. I had to pass a certification exam to be an engineer. I had the college degree but now that I was out of school it was hard to stay on track and study–while working. Positivity’s first chapter talks about how you can connect your life goals with your time management and attitude. You can visualize a good outcome. I wrote out my life goals and looked at them every day when I studied. When my motivation sucked, I asked myself, “Do you want that?” I would then point to my life goals written on a white board. Now I’m making progress.”

"I’m getting better grades in college.
I like the chapter, “How To Become High Value,” in Prescription For Positivity. My grades have sucked lately in college. It’s my first year. I keep saying I can’t, I can’t, I can’t. I can’t do anything different. In that chapter, I saw how I can take on an “I can kick some ass” attitude. These are things I “get” to do. I don’t have to do them. I “get” to do them. Yeah. Like it.”

"Job hunting is easier.
I was in a tailspin I guess. I graduated college and I’ve been sending out resumes but then nothing. No response. I felt like I was failing. Something is wrong. I am wrong. It shouldn’t work this way. Not helpful! Well, in the chapter six, the section on job hunting, that worked. I saw really I’m on track. This is job hunting. It’s an adult world thing. I’m ok. I just need to keep it up. Talk to others. Brain storm for other jobs, other careers, go where the demand is. I feel more on track now.”

Book excerpt
“What’s that?” my camp director, a college professor, asked me while pointing to a tree. “Quaking aspen,” I said tentatively. “Exactly right!” he said. Then the thought occurred to me, “I am being quizzed on the fly by a professor I don’t even know and he could make me look really stupid. I should be scared as hell!” The fear energized me. I thought of running back to my tent. That is what I had done in my life. When things got tough, I quit. But I saw how the professor kept moving forward down the trail. I chose to keep going. The fear energized me to act positively—and see what was around the next bend in the trail.
Later along our walk, the camp director told me something he’d observed about me.
“If you keep focusing on making just a little progress every day,” he announced, “you’ll succeed at anything you put your mind to.” He chuckled to himself at his discovery about me and went back to birdwatching.

"Sleep is getting better.
I just struggled to sleep. I didn’t tell anybody. I got more tired every day. Nothing. No change. Now my sleep is better using meditation at night. It was in chapter 3.”

"I’m doing better in my business.
It sounds trite, but I don’t like to ask for help. My business had all kinds of problems. I read in chapter 6 that successful people ask for help all the time. Apparently no one taught me that! Now I’m asking for help without feeling like I’m a slacker. I write my problems down on to do lists and now I’m facing them with the help of other people’s brain power and my own. Thanks for the tip.”

"I asked her out!
There was this girl I liked. I’d see her at a coffee shop. I took it as something to practice, so I’d ask her out. I looked and acted good. I didn’t care about what happened in the end. I can’t control that, but I used to obsess on that. So I just found a time when no one else was around at her coffee shop and made small talk and said we should get together sometime. She said yes. We met at a restaurant a few days later.”

"A little progress every day–such a great motivational idea!
The story in Chapter 2 is so right on. I’m a busy mother of two high school kids. Between work and driving to sports events–life is a blur! When I tell myself, just make a little progress everyday, it helps me stay in motion. I teach it to my kids too.”

"More energy by using energy boosters…
In Chapter 3, he talks about balancing what boosts your energy with what depletes it. I’ve been doing that at work and it helps me keep my energy up.”

"I’m stopping overthinking instantly with the three step meditation!
On page 77 in Positivity, I read how to do the three step meditation. I couldn’t stop all this negative talk in my head after I got ghosted by a friend. Now I just do the three steps and it works like a reset for my head.”

"I’m feeling unstoppable!
I dropped out of college. I’m married with three kids. I got a job. I kept thinking I can’t do college. But like Jenny in Chapter 3, I decided to just start overcoming my problems. Depression, anxiety and ADD. One at a time, I am working through them. If Jenny can do it, why not me? I’m feeling unstoppable. I mean, why should I stop?”

“I’m getting to sleep now!
I couldn’t stop my mind when I laid down to go to sleep. I read about the three step sleep meditation in Chapter 3. Doing it. It works. Cool.”

"I’m overcoming my betrayal at work!
Work threw me under the bus. I fell into negative stuff in my head. It was helpful to see Dr. Jensen was betrayed too, in Chapter 5. He learned something from it. That just sounded unrealistic. But I’m slowly learning to see the red flags of potential betrayal now, and I am speaking up for myself. I’m not going to let this stop me.”

"I turned seeking a promotion into a self improvement project.
I got dumped for a promotion. It really sucked. I felt sorry for myself. Then I read in Chapter 6, that a better idea is to turn a rejection into a self improvement opportunity instead of a pity party. I’m doing alot of things better and communicating about it to my boss. It feels like I’m on a better track. I’m focused on my accomplishments.”
